3 Tips To Speed Up The Immigration Process

Everett Cook

If you are excited about moving to the United States and want to be able to do so legally, you are probably prepared to go through the immigration process. As you might have heard -- or learned first-hand -- is that this process can be long. There are a lot of people who are looking to immigrate to the United States, and the offices that handle the paperwork can be quite overworked and understaffed. Luckily, there are steps that you can take to speed up the process.

1. Hire an Attorney

It is pretty much always a smart idea to hire an immigration counseling lawyer to help you with the immigration process. If you want to speed things along, it is especially important to seek legal counsel. First of all, your lawyer can make sure that your paperwork is filled out correctly the first time, which can help prevent any unnecessary hold-ups. Also, in some cases, lawyers are able to expedite cases to help them get resolved more quickly.

2. Be Careful with Your Paperwork

When filling out any paperwork on your own, make sure that you take the time to read the instructions and fill it out carefully. If you are not 100 percent fluent in English, you may want to have a translator or someone who is fluent in English to help you. Inaccurate paperwork can cause your case to take much longer and could actually jeopardize your case. This means that it is imperative to take your time and do it correctly the first time.

3. Do the Legwork

Although your attorney will be able to help you with a lot of things, you may be able to help with certain parts of the immigration process to help things get done that much more quickly. For example, you may need to provide your attorney with certain documents, and retrieving these documents and dropping them off or sending them in yourself can help. You might need a copy of your identification card or drivers license, your marriage license and other documents that you can retrieve from your local government offices if you do not have them. Then, you do not have to wait for your busy attorney to get these small things done.

As you can see, there are things that you can do to speed up the immigration process. If you are anxious to move to the United States, or if you are in a situation in which time is of the essence (such as if you have a sick family member in America), then following these tips can help.

About Me
Auto Accident Law 101

After being involved in a serious auto accident with a drunk driver, I struggled heavily with getting the driver's insurance company to open a claim. When the insurance company started pushing back, I knew I needed to do something. I spent a lot of time digging through the laws surrounding auto accident claims so that I knew what my legal rights were. I even talked with an auto accident attorney. I created this site to teach others about what I learned, including my court experience. I hope it helps you to determine how you should proceed with your auto accident case.
