3 Things to Do When Finding an Attorney to Help You with Your Automobile Accident

Everett Cook

If you have been in an automobile accident and the other driver didn't have insurance, you may need to have an attorney to help you get what you are entitled to. That's because an uninsured driver doesn't have the insurance company behind them to make sure that you are getting recompensed. If you have to go to an attorney to help you get your money, there are some things that you may want to do in order to make sure that you have the best chance possible.

Talk to Your Insurance Company

One thing that you need to do is to talk to your insurance company. They may be able to recommend an attorney that they have worked with before who specializes in this kind of case. The insurance company may also already have a suit in the works against the other driver, for whatever reason, and you don't want the two cases to conflict with each other, because no one will get what they need at that point.

Interview Attorneys

After you have talked to your insurance agency, you are also going to need to meet with attorneys. Many attorneys will offer a free consultation, generally for just a few minutes, which will give you some time to ask some questions and talk about your case. Because you are only going to be able to have a few minutes to talk to them, make sure that your questions and answers are concise and succinct. You will also want to make sure that they are in a sensible order. You may want to ask them questions like whether they work on a contingency basis, and if so, how much, and how many other cases like this they have handled.

Gather Your Information

Once have the attorney that you want, you want to make sure that you have all the possible information you can give them for your case. That will include things like medical records of any injuries sustained by you or your passengers, statements by any passengers and the police, and pictures of damage sustained to your vehicle. Your attorney may ask for other information, but those things are a good place to start.

If you have been in a car accident but you are dealing with an uninsured driver, working with a car accident attorney may be the only way to get what you are entitled to, so finding the right one is important.

About Me
Auto Accident Law 101

After being involved in a serious auto accident with a drunk driver, I struggled heavily with getting the driver's insurance company to open a claim. When the insurance company started pushing back, I knew I needed to do something. I spent a lot of time digging through the laws surrounding auto accident claims so that I knew what my legal rights were. I even talked with an auto accident attorney. I created this site to teach others about what I learned, including my court experience. I hope it helps you to determine how you should proceed with your auto accident case.
